The 12-year-old Nkanu Daniel Victor has won the 2023 MTN mPulse Spelling Bee Competition after months of fierce competition. Daniel, a student at Christ International’s Intimacy programme in Nasarawa, emerged victorious in the competition after correctly spelling eight words during a spell-off against Oluwadamilola Adeolu, age eleven, at the MTN Head Office in Ikoyi, Lagos.

For students in elementary and secondary schools between the ages of nine and fifteen, the mPulse Spelling Bee Competition seeks to promote both academic achievement and personal development. More than thirty thousand students nationwide took part in it when it started in August 2023. For a day, the 12-year-old champion will lead MTN Nigeria, and for a year, he will represent mPulse as its face.

In addition to becoming MTN Nigeria’s CEO for a day, Daniel will also receive a N2.5 million scholarship grant, a laptop, a smartphone, and an MTN goody bag. Modern ICT equipment, such as ten laptops and ten Hynet modems, will also be given to the spelling bee champion’s school, and her spelling coach/teacher will get a N500,000 cash award.

Daniel was accompanied by Oluwadamilola Adeolu, the first runner-up, and Ajibola Flourish, the second runner-up, both from St. Lawrence Metropolitan College, Ado Ekiti. Other finalists also received numerous goody bags and prizes totaling over N10 million.

One of the many programmes run by MTN to help kids in elementary and secondary schools around the nation succeed in healthy competitions, interact with the community, and demonstrate our dedication to education is the mPulse Spelling Bee, according to the company.
