The Labour Veterans and Trade Unionists Assembly is a group that has denounced the low pay of federal employees and voiced concerns about the ongoing negotiations to raise the national minimum wage.
Additionally, they demanded that state governors cease taking arbitrary salary deductions from employees and show a commitment to reviewing the minimum wage.
The group expressed their concerns in a statement signed by Comrade Isa Tijjani, the national interim chairman, who stated that the government must make sure that all eligible workers receive the agreed-upon sum even before the new minimum wage takes effect.
The group has asked labour leaders and the working class to pay adequate and special attention to the holistic and complete execution of any agreements reached with the government at the end of the negotiation, while also appreciating the Tinubu administration for this labor-friendly gesture.
“Given the current difficulties faced by workers nationwide as a result of the blatant refusal of many governors to implement and pay workers the agreed rate,” Tijjani stated, “this has become necessary.”
“We would especially like to draw attention to the situation in Borno area, where we previously thought of the executive governor and his excellency, Professor Zulum, as performers before realising that labourers in the area are being treated unfairly.
It hurts to acknowledge that, as of right now, the majority of local governments in Borno State pay their employees the minimum salary of N6000 to N8000. This information is clearly documented. This is a clear example of inhumane slavery in the twenty-first century, in addition to being heinous.
He urged the governor of Borno State to end all sorts of unfair deductions and make sure that all eligible workers receive the agreed-upon amount even before the new minimum wage takes effect.
