Veteran music executive and record producer Olumide Ogunade, better known by his stage name ID Cabasa, has related the story of Olamide, a former signee of his label Coded Tunes, quitting.

Cabasa revealed during his appearance on the “Afrobeats Podcast” that he cried while Olamide was leaving.

He claimed that despite his best efforts to convince Olamide to stay, he was granted permission to depart.

“When I met Olamide, he was thirteen years old,” he added. He and his friend arrived at my studio with the intention of including him on a song. His friend wasn’t a talented musician. Olamide was reserved and silent. I gave him a beat, and he transformed everything with 16 bars. To me, Olamide started to resemble a son.

We had a discussion when he was ready to leave my record label. I felt like it hurt. It was the sorrow of watching someone you love go, not the pain of not wanting him to get better. I sobbed.

“Olamide, you should’ve waited o,” I exclaimed. “Bros, I want to do something, and I’m sure we might not be able to do some of them by your code,” he stated. It was not a fight. I bestowed all my blessings upon him.

In 2012, Olamide founded YBNL Nation, his record company, after quitting Coded Tunes.
