The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has vowed to combat the evil that has destroyed countless lives throughout Nigeria and declared war on gender-based violence.
Speaking yesterday at a high-level discussion on gender-based violence in Abuja, its president, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, denounced the threat and described it as a widespread problem with far-reaching effects.
Okoh emphasised the vital role that religious leaders have in standing up to gender-based violence and promoting the development of a more fair and just society.
In order for everyone to live and thrive in a society free from prejudice or intimidation, we as religious leaders must demonstrate moral leadership by speaking out against all types of violence and injustice, including gender-based violence.
The president of CAN also applauded the dialogue’s organisers for bringing together participants from various industries to talk about preventative and remedial measures for gender-based violence.
He exhorted attendees to have productive conversations, exchange best practices, and make a commitment to acting decisively to resolve the matter in their local communities.
We must be honest in our efforts to combat GBV in our community and around the globe, devoting all the necessary time, effort, and resources to the cause.
I implore everyone to participate in productive discussion, exchange best practices, and make a commitment to acting decisively to stop gender-based violence in our communities.
“Let us support survivors, fight for their rights, and endeavour to break the cycle of violence so that future generations don’t have to experience it,” he urged.
