Yesterday morning, the SSA on media Jubril Gawat joined the Special Adviser to Governor Sanwo-Olu on Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe, at the historic Freedom Park on Lagos Island.
This iconic park, fully owned by the Lagos State Government, has a rich history as a former prison site, where notable figures like Obafemi Awolowo, Anthony Enahoro, Herbert Macaulay, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, and others were once incarcerated.
The park’s monuments showcase the city’s colonial heritage and history, making it a significant tourist attraction. Recognizing its potential, the Special Adviser has initiated a revamp of the Freedom Park and its surroundings, aimed at restoring the area to its former glory and unlocking its full tourism potential.
This initiative is a laudable step towards preserving Lagos’ cultural and historical legacy, and I commend the Special Adviser and the Lagos State Government for their efforts. Let us continue to support this endeavor and celebrate the beauty and significance of Freedom Park.
