The Dosunmu market on Lagos Island caught fire recently, and the Lagos State administration has announced that those who lost property there will receive compensation to lessen their losses.
At the government-organized Ministerial Press Briefing to mark Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s one-year term in office, Hon. (Mrs.) Bola Olumegbon-Lawal, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Central Business Districts, disclosed this information.
Presenting the office’s annual report, Olumegbon-Lawal stated that the activities of the CBD management office, which are aimed at having a positive effect on stakeholders, are dependent on four main pillars: environmental sanitation and beautification; traffic management; safety and security; and stakeholder engagement in accordance with the administration’s T.H.E.M.E.S. agenda.
She clarified that attempts are being made to make up for the losses incurred by everyone whose properties were destroyed in the recent fire at Dosunmu Street in Victoria Island, Lagos.
“I can inform you that the names of individuals impacted and an estimate of the properties harmed by the regrettable tragedy have been compiled by the state government. As a result, everyone who is impacted may relax knowing that the state government will fairly and impartially recompense everyone. Lumegbon-Lawal.
She also revealed that in order to accomplish the meagre results reported in the last year, the office collaborated closely with other government organisations, including the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Lagos State Fire Services, Lagos State Safety Commission, and Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
In order to accomplish a larger goal within the next three years, he advocated for increased operational synergy among all government entities functioning within the CBD.
In order to solve the issues of unlawful parking and traffic congestion in the region, the Special Adviser said that the agency is in talks with private investors to build a multi-layer car park within the Lagos Island Business District.
Additionally, she mentioned that the organisation will soon offer medical cubicles inside the marketplaces to give primary healthcare to locals, company owners, and tourists who visit the business districts.
She emphasised that the state government had invested a great deal of money on painting, rebranding, reconstructing, beautifying, and generally improving the Lagos Island CBD axis to guarantee that a calm and favourable atmosphere exists for business to prosper.
