The National Orientation Agency (NOA) Director-General, Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, reports that the Federal Government has completed plans to create a citizens brigade to promote fundamental principles.

During an advocacy visit to the Nigerian Christian Institute (NCI), Uyo on Monday, Issa-Onilu revealed this.

He said that the citizens brigade was a component of the National Value Charter, which President Bola Tinubu was scheduled to present this year.

37,000 Nigerian children, according to the D-G, would be enlisted in the brigade and brought up as role models to uphold moral principles and good behaviour.

He stated that in order for Nigerian children to grow up to be patriotic and successful adults, they must be raised with fundamental principles from an early age.

“Creating a citizens brigade is one of the seven objectives on our roadmap to strengthen national values.

It is one of the voluntary institutions we plan to establish in order to provide our children with possibilities to be nourished from an early age.

It will be designed in the style of the girls’ brigade and boys scouts from back then. They’ll be outfitted and brought up to be excellent citizens, he continued.

He stated that in the upcoming years, hundreds more kids were expected to join the brigade.

To show their patriotism to the country, Issa-Onilu advised Nigerians to learn the new national hymn by heart and perform it.

Nigerians’ devotion to their nation is symbolised by the new national hymn. It can bring us together and has a greater influence, he claimed.

The D-G claimed that the new hymn awakened Nigerians’ conscience in addition to reviving a spirit of nationalism and patriotism.

“Compared to the national anthem we recently modified, the one from 1960 still has a greater resonance.

Ms. Mfon Nze, Principal, NCI, Uyo, thanked the organisation for selecting the institution as deserving of the advocacy tour in her remarks.

Nze stated that because the visit had revitalised the school’s value system, its effects will last for a very long time.

“I am thrilled that you selected the NCI in every school in Akwa Ibom and Uyo; this will go down in the annals of this organisation,” the woman remarked.
