In an effort to protect the environment and slow down the effects of climate change in the state, the Ogun State government plans to plant two million trees by 2024.

Speaking to reporters during a tree-planting advocacy campaign organised by Waradi El Shadai Creations, a group advocating for a greener environment in partnership with the state government as part of activities marking the 2024 World Environment Day, the state commissioner for forestry, Engr. Taiwo Oludotun, disclosed this.

Oludotun, accompanied by Timothy Olatunji, the permanent secretary of the ministry, clarified that the state government has persisted in giving the environment and forest reserves top priority by planting trees in an effort to save lives.

He urged all state citizens to assume accountability for building a better society where everyone may have a healthy existence.

The environmentalist Waradi Etuk clarified in his statements that the goal of planting trees is to encourage the development of green infrastructure in society. He emphasised that everyone needs to act now and that climate change and global warming are real.

Etuk went on to say that his organisation took action to protect and maintain the environment since it was strongly in line with UN principles. “If nothing happens, the earth will be too hot for habitation,” he emphasised.
