After a four-day hunger protest across Nigeria, normalcy has returned to Lagos State, with full government activities resuming on Monday. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu chaired the Executive Council Meeting, marking the end of the protest.
The protest’s conclusion follows President Bola Tinubu’s appeal to demonstrators on Sunday to cease their actions and engage in dialogue. Governor Sanwo-Olu commended the Lagos protesters for heeding the President’s call and ending their protest peacefully.
Commissioner for Information and Strategy Gbenga Omotoso confirmed the peaceful state of Lagos, stating, “Lagos is peaceful, and that is what Lagosians want.” He added that government operations have fully resumed, with workers back at their desks and members of the public engaging with government services.
Omotoso highlighted Lagos’s role as Nigeria’s commercial hub and expressed gratitude to the protesters for their contribution to the city’s stability. “Lagosians have chosen peace and rejected chaos,” he said.
The state government has received thousands of calls from individuals and groups seeking to engage in dialogue since issuing three contact numbers. A check on major markets across the state and the state secretariat confirmed the commissioner’s assessment of the situation.
With normalcy restored, Lagos State is poised to continue its economic and social activities without disruption.
