Comedian and actor Ayo Makun has publicly expressed his anger over a fabricated Artificial Intelligence (AI)) video circulating on social media, which shows him kissing actress May Edochie. The video appeared after AY posted footage of himself and May traveling to the UK for the promotion of his latest film, The Waiter.
In a strong reaction on Instagram, AY condemned the use of AI to spread false information and harm people’s reputations. He expressed concern over how some young Nigerians are using their skills for destructive purposes rather than contributing positively to society.
He also drew a parallel to a previous case involving reality TV star Alex Asogwa, who had been the subject of similar online misinformation and urged people to use their talents for innovation and growth, rather than for promoting division and negativity.
“Nigeria is rich with potential, and your unique skills; be it in art, music, technology, or entrepreneurship can be pivotal in driving positive change. Instead of using your creativity to undermine those who are working hard to improve their lives and contribute to society, let’s focus on uplifting one another,” he wrote.
“It’s essential to recognize that every action has consequences. When we choose to sabotage others, we only perpetuate a cycle of negativity and destruction. At what point will we realize that unity and collaboration will yield far greater results than division? The other time, it was the poor @alex_unusual who is yet to come out of all the lies and narratives meted out on her person for choosing to always be a support a family who were a major part of her brand growth. Must you all chase away everyone working with me or trying to earn an honest living through me?”
He further stressed that every action comes with consequences and that undermining others only perpetuates negativity. AY questioned when people would realize that unity and collaboration are far more effective than division.
“Just like what happened to @alex_unusual, who is still dealing with the false narratives that were spread about her just for supporting a family that helped her grow her brand. Why must some people try to sabotage others who are simply trying to work hard and build something meaningful?” he added.
The comedian also called for greater unity and mutual support, emphasizing that everyone’s efforts deserve to be acknowledged and celebrated.
Both AY and May are currently dealing with personal challenges, including rumors of marital strain in AY’s 20-year marriage to Mabel and May’s ongoing issues with her husband, actor Yul Edochie. Despite their personal battles, AY remains vocal in his call for a more positive and collaborative atmosphere in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
