The Lagos State Government has announced an eight-hour road closure and traffic diversion for the 2025 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, scheduled for Saturday, February 15, 2025.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this on Tuesday, stating that the closure will take effect from 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. He advised motorists to plan their movements ahead and use designated alternative routes.
According to Osiyemi, the marathon will commence at the National Stadium, Surulere, and follow a route through Ikorodu Road, Gbagada, the Third Mainland Bridge, Dolphin Road, Alfred Rewane Road, Falomo Roundabout, Bourdillon Road, Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, Admiralty Way, Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, Akin Adesola, and Ahmadu Bello Way before concluding at Eko Atlantic.
“All adjoining roads, junctions, and intersections along this route will be blocked with concrete barriers and manned by security personnel, including LASTMA, NPF, FRSC, and other agencies, to prevent unauthorized access,” he said.
To mitigate disruptions, the government has provided alternative routes for motorists.
Motorists moving from Ikeja to Victoria Island should use Ikorodu Road/Funsho Williams Avenue to Eko Bridge, then Outer Marina. Motorists from Badagry/Mile 2 moving to Victoria Island should pass through Apapa via Orile, connect to Eko Bridge, and proceed via Outer Marina.
Motorists from Surulere heading to the Island should go through Iponri/Iganmu to Eko Bridge, then Outer Marina. Motorists traveling to Lagos-Ibadan Expressway should take Ojota Slip Road, link Ikorodu Road, then Funsho Williams Avenue to Eko Bridge. Also from Okota to Victoria Island should travel via Mile 2/Orile to Eko Bridge and Outer Marina.
Motorists from Sango-Ota going to the Island should use Mushin, Funsho Williams Avenue, and Eko Bridge. Also from Epe-Lekki Expressway, motorists should use Marwa Junction, Admiralty Way, and the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge.
For motorists traveling from Lagos Island to the Mainland, diversions will be made to Apongbon Bridge, Eko Bridge, Costain, Iponri, and Bode Thomas. An alternative route through Independence Bridge and CMS Bridge will also be available.
Osiyemi added that the Third Mainland Bridge would be closed to traffic heading toward Lagos Island but open for vehicles moving toward the Mainland.
He assured residents that traffic management personnel would be deployed to ensure a smooth flow of movement and urged the public to adhere to the temporary road closures.
