The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has released a statement condemning the recent incident at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), where a student allegedly physically assaulted a lecturer over a TikTok recording.
According to NANS, the organization has always been a strong advocate for students’ rights, academic freedom, and a conducive learning environment. However, NANS also emphasizes the importance of discipline, respect for authority, and adherence to the laws governing educational institutions.
“It is in this light that we strongly condemn the reported incident at UNIZIK, where a student physically assaulted a lecturer over a TikTok recording,” the statement reads. “Such behavior is unacceptable and does not reflect the values of Nigerian students.”
NANS calls on students to maintain a high level of discipline and respect for authority, while also advocating for their rights and interests. The organization also urges educational institutions to provide a conducive learning environment and to address any grievances that may arise.
