Controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has turned himself in to the Ogun State Police Command.
The command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed his arrival in a statement on Wednesday. Earlier, reports indicated that Portable had voluntarily surrendered at the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, stated that the Ogun State Police Command had been notified to take custody of the singer. “Portable just turned himself in at the SCID, Yaba. We have contacted the Ogun State Police Command to come and pick him up,” Hundeyin said.
Odutola later confirmed Portable’s arrival at the Ogun SCID, Eleweran, Abeokuta, at 1:23 p.m. “His presence at the SCID is linked to an ongoing investigation. The command assures the public that due process will be followed, and updates will be provided as necessary,” she stated.
She also urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading misinformation, emphasizing the command’s commitment to justice and public order.
Portable has been under police scrutiny following allegations of assaulting three officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development during an enforcement exercise in Ota. The officials TPL Onabanjo Abidemi, TPL Raymond Lateef, and TPL Ridwan Oyero Akinlesi were reportedly attacked while on duty at Oke-Osa, Tigbo Ilu.
Nine of Portable’s alleged accomplices were arrested and charged at a Magistrates’ Court in Isabo, Abeokuta. They faced five counts, including felony, assault, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace. The suspects, accused of wielding cutlasses and guns, pleaded not guilty.
After repeatedly ignoring police invitations, the Ogun State Police Command declared Portable wanted.
In response, the singer posted multiple videos on Tuesday, referring to himself as a “madman undergoing treatment” at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta. He also pleaded for leniency from the Ogun State Government and the public.
