Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has opened up about why she chooses not to sign emerging artistes, citing the challenges of managing their behavior.
Speaking in an interview with Forbes Africa, the 45-year-old singer explained that artist management requires a special skill set that she does not possess.
“Everyone always asks, ‘When are you going to sign an artiste?’ I don’t think I have the gift to sign artistes because they are stressful. I could just wake up from sleep and my artiste is trending for something else,” she stated.
Instead of running a record label, Savage revealed that she is focused on establishing a music school to help aspiring musicians develop their craft before signing with established labels.
“But I have the gift to help, which is why I’m trying to have a music school, where artistes can go and later sign to a label that can actually help,” she added.
Her comments have sparked discussions about the challenges artists face in mentoring new talent and the need for more structured training opportunities in the Nigerian music industry.
