Mikel Arteta has been sent an injury message by Gabriel Martinelli after the Arsenal star was seen clutching his hamstring as he was withdrawn during the Premier League win over Burnley. Arteta’s main concern heading into the clash surrounded Bukayo Saka after he picked up a knock in the dominant Champions League triumph over Sevilla, however it was his other first-choice winger feeling the effects this time.

The 22-year-old has already missed a number of weeks this season with a hamstring issue, and that same problem could have returned on Saturday. The exact extent of the injury is unknown but it would certainly be a blow for Arteta if he joins a lengthy injury list.

Thomas Partey and Jurrien Timber are the long-term absentees with Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Jesus and Ben White all missing this past weekend’s action. From the 3-1 win against Vincent Kompany’s side, alongside Martinelli, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Jorginho picked up minor knocks, although both are expected to be fine.

Thankfully, the November international has seemingly come at the perfect time with those injured stars given two weeks to rest at London Colney before the Gunners return to action against Brentford. However, for a duo carrying muscular concerns that may not be the case.

Both Martinelli and Jesus have joined up with the Brazil squad for their international games against Colombia and Argentina, with their arrivals confirmed via Instagram. The latter heading to South America was known despite him missing the last few weeks for Arsenal with Brazil boss Fernando Diniz revealing as such when the squad was confirmed.

Meanwhile Arteta, when asked whether Jesus would join up with the Brazil squad, replied: “I’m going to talk to the doctors and him [Jesus] because he didn’t do any training with us. He’s far from working with the team, but it’s an internal communication between the club and the national team. The first intention is always to seek the best for the player,” he added.
