Lagos State Host Annual Activism Day

As part of the ongoing 16 Days of Activism Against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, SGBV, the First Lady of Lagos State Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu accompanied by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs Oluremi Hamzat, today, joined the rest of the world to commemorate the annual Activism Days with the theme “Invest to prevent violence against Women and Girls.

In line with the theme, Dr Sanwo-Olu organized an interactive School Advocacy Seminar for 6 Lagos State Secondary School Students. This event was held at the Tayo Aderinokun Hall, University of Lagos, Akoka.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Folashade Ogunsola, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Development and Services, Prof Ayodele Atsenuwa, and other top officials of the University warmly received the First Lady and her team.

During the Seminar, the students were encouraged to join the GBV campaign by participating actively in discussions on issues around Gender Based Violence and proferring possible solutions. They were also enlightened on how to seek assistance when needed. This is one of the initiatives by the First Lady aimed at positively affecting the lives of the upcoming generation.

The Students were also taken on a tour around the university campus to inspire hope and encourage them to work hard towards a brighter future which is the essence of the color orange in GBV: A brighter future free from violence against women and girls.
