Residents advice Community Policing to help curb Cultism in Lagos

People who live in areas of Lagos where cult activities pose a threat have requested that the state government step in and support law enforcement’s commitment to combating the problem.

Even though the police have declared that cult gang leaders have been apprehended within a few months of the declaration, locals in places like Ipaja/Ayobo, Isolo, and Ikorodu have not stopped reporting about the surge in cultist activity in their neighbourhood.

As it has done in the past to raise awareness among important community members in cooperation with the Police Community Relations Committee, an Ayobo resident urged law enforcement to implement the community policing approach.

An unidentified Isolo resident expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Police for their efforts in capturing members of Aleeba and Agbara, two members of a recently formed cult. The culprits were apprehended in their hideouts in the Ogun State communities of Ayobo and Atan, which are likewise well-known for their cult activity.

In June of last year, cult members were taken into custody in Ikorodu, Badagry, and Isolo.

The decentralised efforts of Police Commissioner Idowu Owohunwa have resulted in the minimum amount of activity by cultists in the state, according to Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos Police Command, who also paraded the suspects.

However, there have been reports that cultist activity extends beyond schools into communities and even among market vendors.
