For safety violations, the Lagos Safety Commission has sealed 19 event venues in the interest of public safety.

During a recent routine inspection and on-the-spot assessment of several event centres throughout the State, Mr. Lanre Mojola, the Director-General of the Commission, revealed this.

According to him, the safety assessment exercise is an ongoing effort to achieve the Commission’s mandate of ensuring zero accidents, particularly during this yuletide season.

Mojola declared that before the exercise, the Commission had earlier informed all events centre owners through their various associations of the need to adopt safety best practices at all events and duly register all events from 250 guests and above via its registration portal www.lasgsafetyreg.com to obtain an Event Safety Permit.

He noted that the Commission has taken decisive action to enforce compliance with basic safety standards and guarantee safer events by sealing these event centres for nonconformity with already established safety protocols.

He claims that the safety assessment exercise is a continuous endeavour to fulfil the Commission’s mandate to guarantee zero accidents, especially in this holiday season.

According to Mojola, the Commission had previously notified all owners of event centres through their respective associations of the need to implement safety best practices at all events and to properly register all events with 250 guests or more via its registration portal, www.lasgsafetyreg.com, in order to obtain an Event Safety Permit, prior to the exercise.

Additionally, Mojola urged the public to report any safety violations they witness at public events and facilities to the Commission.
