Alhaji Olanrewaju Adepoju, a well-known Yoruba activist, poet, author, writer, and artist, has passed away.

Around 7 p.m., Lanrewaju Adepoju, as he was affectionately known, passed away in his Ibadan home at the age of 81, according to report.

Until his passing, he was the Aaare Alasa of Ibadan land.

In a brief statement obtained by the media on Monday, one of the children of the late poet and activist Adejare Adepoju confirmed the deceased’s passing.

“Baba has gone to rest,” he declared.

Adepoju was a poet, dramatist, writer, and social activist who influenced government policies through his poetry.

Among other things, he wrote Sagba Dewe, Ironu Akewi, and Orirun Yoruba.

Adepoju was a formidable force during the dark days of the military regime because many of his songs addressed social injustices and unfavourable government policies.
