As part of a gesture towards enhancing education as a catalyst for national development, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria and National Chairman of Renewed Hope Initiative has donated 100,000 copies of exercise books to public primary and junior secondary schools in Lagos State.
At the official handover ceremony held at the Banquet Hall, Lagos House Ikeja, the First Lady of Lagos State and State Coordinator of Renewed Hope Initiative, Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, highlighted the importance of education in empowering the younger generation.
While handing over the exercise books to representatives of the benefiting schools, Dr. Sanwo-Olu emphasised Senator Tinubu’s belief that education is crucial for personal growth and societal advancement.
She stated that the donation, made through the Education Support Programme (RHIESP) of Renewed Hope Initiative, aims to support the learning needs of students in Lagos State and enhance their academic pursuits.
According to her, the books will be distributed to students by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB).
Dr. Sanwo-Olu commended Senator Tinubu for her dedication to improving educational outcomes and encouraged students to strive for excellence in their academic endeavours.
The Governor’s wife specifically appreciated the First Lady of Nigeria for giving Lagos State the privilege of being the first beneficiary of the Renewed Hope Initiative Education Support Programme (RHIESP).
In her words, “The State Government extends gratitude for the sincere efforts of Senator Tinubu and Renewed Hope Initiative in positively impacting the lives of students through education”.
Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hon. Jamiu Alli-Balogun described the Renewed Hope Initiative Education Support Programme as a testament to Senator Oluremi Tinubu’s love and dedication to the growth of all children.
He emphasised that the initiative will further provide educational interventions for the pupils/students and maximum support for students, parents and classroom teachers.
The Executive Chairman, Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB), Dr. Hakeem Shittu also stated that the kind gesture of the First Lady will encourage many out-of-school children to return to school and drastically reduce the number of out-of-school pupils.
