Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has emphasised that increased love amongst Nigerians and patriotism for the country are part of the solutions to the nation’s challenges.
Sanwo-Olu gave this admonition at the 25th State House Ramadan Tafseer Anniversary Prayer held on Tuesday at the State House Mosque Complex, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.
In the same vein, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, who incidentally was the Commissioner for Home Affairs when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was the Governor of Lagos State and initiated the Ramadan Lecture, urged Nigerians to support the governments both at the state and federal levels in their quests to lift Nigeria from the current socio-economic morass.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat acknowledged that there is currently a global problem that is not limited to Nigeria that necessitated the current hardships. He said, “Things are presently very tough, no doubt, but this is the time to come together to proffer solutions and not to start abusing the government”.
He further advised Nigerians to return to the communal ways of Africans which was charity, stressing that in the days of our forefathers, one’s neighbour’s problem is equally one, but it seems we are losing our culture and imbibing other people’s culture. During that era, we shared what we had, our parents brought in other children home, they didn’t just raise their children they raised other children as well”.
While stressing the need for Nigerians to return to the real African style of living, Sanwo-Olu said that it is necessary to go back to the times when it took the whole village to raise a child.
Speaking further, the Governor advised Nigerians to always be mindful of God in all their deeds and always to aspire to achieve great things.
In his words, Commissioner for Home Affairs, Hon. Olanrewaju Ibrahim Layode noted that the Tasfeer which started 25 years ago designed to bring people together to proffer solutions and pray for the prosperity of the country.
While speaking on the present situation of the country, Hon. Layode said Nigerians don’t need to fight, quarrel, or castigate one another, but think of good ideas and follow the teachings of the Quran as there are a lot of solutions in it. He, however, urged Nigerians to always pray for the leaders in the country.
According to the Pioneer Commissioner for Ministry of Home Affairs, Senator, Musiliu Obanikoro enjoined Nigerians to take advantage of the Holy Month of Ramadan to pray that the country becomes great for the betterment of all.
Obanikoro stated that Nigerians claim to believe in God but their words and ways do not match their deeds to a reasonable extent, saying “If you are a believer there is no way that you will do anything that will be detrimental to your fellow human begins. What we are taught in religion is to do unto others what we want others to do unto us.”
