After a dismal performance at award shows, Nigerian artist Burna Boy has finally turned things around. He won the Best African Music Artist title at the 2024 iHeart Radio Music Awards in the United States.
Rapper Ludacris presented the live 2024 iHeart Radio Music Awards on FOX on Monday night.
Best Collaboration of the Year went to Rema and Selena Gomez’s song “Calm Down,” which is another song by a Nigerian musician.
The iHeart Icon Award went to Cher, and the iHeart Innovator Award went to American musical sensation Beyoncé.
With six prizes, including Artist of the Year, Pop Artist of the Year, Tour of the Year, Best Lyrics, TikTok Bop of the Year, and Favorite Tour Style, Taylor Swift topped the winners’ leaderboard.
Wizkid and Tems are the only other Nigerian musicians with iHeart Radio Music awards, along with Burna Boy and Rema.
Burna Boy had a losing run at award presentations prior to Friday night. He had lost out on nominations for seven BET Hip-hop Awards in 2023, four Grammy Awards in 2024, and six NAACP Image Awards in 2024. He was unsuccessful in winning Best International Artist of the Year at the 2024 Brit Awards on the other side of the Atlantic.
