President Bola Tinubu’s committed effort to significantly enhance existing primary healthcare facilities and build more than 8,800 new centers nationwide aims to provide accessible and high-quality healthcare services, alongside introducing new accountability measures. As a part of this initiative, the National Health Fellows Programme has been authorized by the President, engaging young Nigerian fellows across all 774 local government areas in the country.
The expertly trained individuals will act as diligent representatives to oversee and monitor the progress and effectiveness of Primary Healthcare Centre development. This will be closely scrutinized against all financial to centers nationwide.
The fellowship program will operate within the Sector Wide Approach (SWAp) coordination office at the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. Selected fellows will be hired, compensated, and provided with necessary tools to monitor the effectiveness of Basic Health Care Provision Fund-backed health facilities across the country.
