Transparency Watch Initiative (TWI), a civil society organisation, has demanded a significant overhaul of the Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS) in the Federal Capital Territory. TWI coordinator Umar Abba made a number of accusations against an unnamed DRTS director at a news conference. According to Abba, the director has changed the organisational structure of the organisation, ignored seasoned career employees, and inappropriately nominated unfit candidates to important roles. According to Abba, “the DRTS operations on major roads today are manned by non-staff who cause commotion at all times due to their inexperience.” He claimed that the operations department is currently led by an educator, while the engineering section is incorrectly led by another educator. TWI also objected to how the DRTS handled insurance plans and licence plates. The director, the head of motor vehicle administration, and the general public, according to Abba, are not equally split among the number plates that are obtained from the Federal Road Safety Corps, or FRSC. Abba urged Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, to start a thorough reorganisation of the DRTS right now “for efficiency.” He asked Wike to name the agency’s head as “an experienced career officer within the directorate.”
