Brig. Gen. Y.D. Ahmed, the director-general (DG) of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has urged corps members to be model citizens who promote harmony in whichever society they are a part of. He counselled them to honour the customs and culture of the residents of their host communities.

He said this at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp’s closing ceremony for the orientation of 2024 Batch A Stream 2 corp members in the Wamakko local government area of Sokoto State.

The DG issued a strong warning to the corps members not to engage in criminal activity, stressing that they should protect the good name of the NYSC and their families. The DG was represented by Alhaji Usman Yakubu Yaro, the coordinator for the NYSC in Sokoto State.

“I implore you to maintain the spirit of patriotism, diligence, and perseverance that you acquired during the orientation course,” he stated.

Ahmed also advised the corps members not to travel at night, advising them to stop travelling wherever they are by 6:00 p.m. and find approved safe havens to spend the night in.

He asked them to stay on the Skill Acquisition Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme after camp and to always be available at their major assigned locations.

The posting letters to the corps members who made it through were distributed, which was one of the event’s highlights.
