Comrade Idris Abdulkareem Lafene, the state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has received a vote of confidence from the affiliate unions of the Niger State Council for his perseverance in covering third-party deductions made by the state government, among other things.
This was covered in the decisions made at yesterday’s NLC State Executive Council (SEC) meeting in Labour House, Minna.
The resolution, according to the SEC-in-session, was based on Comrade Idris Abdulkareem Lafene’s extraordinary accomplishments, which have outperformed the previous NLC leaderships in the last six years. It also noted that affiliate unions are being carried along in the grand scheme of things, particularly when it comes to the welfare of workers.
The SEC also observed that third-party deduction arrears were being paid, that state and local government areas were continuing to pay salaries to all worker and pension categories, and that the local government areas had started to pay down their outstanding salary arrears, which had gone from 210% to less than 50%.
Additionally, the NLC and State Ministry of Agriculture’s relationship was approved by the SEC-in-session in order to support Governor Mohammed Umar Bago’s agricultural initiative.
To this purpose, the ministry has approved the state NLC’s proposal to set up a labor farm, for which a document is currently being drafted and will be presented to the government.
It states that beneficiaries will be chosen and changed yearly, and that before signing any agreements, the leadership would consider the legal ramifications of each memorandum of understanding (MoU).
For the purpose of celebrating Workers’ Day, the SEC-in-session instructed its members to gather and send to the secretariat any further accomplishments and difficulties that impact their individual unions.
