Nollywood actress Bimbo Ademoye originally had her sights set on a different role, but she is currently receiving acclaim for her work in the recently released “Gangs of Lagos.”

On April 7, 2023, the Jade Osiberu movie went live on Prime Video. Starring in it were Tobi Bakre, Adesua Etomi-Wellington, Chike Osebuka, Chioma Akpotha, and Iyabo Ojo.

Ademoye plays Teni in the movie, the affluent and sheltered daughter of gangster Kazeem (played by Olarotimi Fakunle).

However, the actress said during a press junket prior to the movie’s release that she originally wanted to play the gangster role that Etomi-Wellington portrays, Gift.

She uttered, “When I first read the story, I imagined a certain character, Gift, smashing bottles. Breaking bottles is customary where I come from, in Ebute Metta. I assumed I was going to be Gift because the lifestyle is a norm for me, but I later realized I was actually playing Teni.”

The 32-year-old called the co-writer, co-producer, and co-director of the movie, Osiberu, to make sure she hadn’t given the wrong person the wrong part.

The actress claims that the director wanted her to portray a unique role rather than one that most people would expect her to play.

“That kind of touched me because any time she wants to give me a character, she goes beyond something people would expect. That’s how much she believes (in me),” she said.

Ademoye is thankful Osiberu trusted her to play Teni, who is also a representation of how she was raised by a single parent in a challenging setting, despite her initial thoughts about the part. The Sugar Rush star was keen to point out that the main distinction was that her father wasn’t anything like the deadly Kazeem in Gangs of Lagos.

“It was like asking me to come and play myself in real life. I’m grateful for the gift of Teni,” she said.

The movie is a component of Osiberu’s three-year African Originals for Prime Video initiative.
