There are strong indications that Ghanaian sensation Gregory Bortey Newman, also known as King Promise, may have teamed up with Grammy-Award winning Nigerian artist Burna Boy for a highly anticipated collaboration, a development that has created excitement in the music scene.

The possibility of this musical collaboration was first mentioned on Twitter by well-known YouTuber Kwadwo Sheldon about four months ago. Fans have been anticipating the full release of the song since a tantalising preview of it appeared recently.

A Nigerian X user posted a clip of Burna Boy adding a guest verse to King Promise’s song on Tuesday, December 14. The clip has since gone viral. Adding an interesting cultural component to the collaboration, Burna Boy’s use of the Twi dialect in his performance is especially noteworthy.

The craze surrounding the purported partnership makes sense when one considers Burna Boy’s professed affection for Ghana. The Grammy-winning musician has worked with some of Ghana’s biggest artists, such as Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, and M.anifest, and has previously talked about the true joy he finds there.

Burna Boy’s love for Ghanaian music would grow if his partnership with King Promise succeeds, demonstrating his cross-cultural influence in the West African music industry.

Although the partnership between King Promise and the City Boys hitmaker is still only a rumour, fans are getting more and more enthusiastic as they wait for an official announcement from the participating artists.

The song’s use of a vintage R2Bees sample only builds the suspense for what might turn out to be a ground-breaking musical collaboration between these two Afrobeat heavyweights.
