A lawsuit demanding a Deoxyribonucleic Acid test for Liam, the late musician Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, is scheduled to be heard by the Magistrates’ Court in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The family’s attorney, Monisola Odumosu, attested to a statement confirming this.
It was revealed that Joseph Aloba, the late singer’s father, had launched a lawsuit to have his grandson Liam to undergo a DNA test.
Odumosu stated that all required legal resources were available to ensure the outcome of the case in the statement headlined “Aloba family seeks court order for DNA test on Liam,” which our correspondent was able to receive on Sunday.
Aloba, he said, was asking the court for an order mandating that the test be performed at the applicant’s expense in a government or private medical facility in the state that is recognized and certified.
A date has been set for the mention of the DNA test application that the family of the late ace pop artist, Mr. Ilerioluwa Promise Oladimeji Aloba (better known as Mohbad), who passed away on September 12, 2023, under peculiar circumstances, has sought. The appropriate legal framework is in place.
The case is Joseph Aloba v. Cynthia Omowunmi Aloba and is pending in the Family Court of the Ikorodu Magistrate Court (MKD/31/FAM/2024). The family, through the father who passed away, is requesting a court order mandating that, at the applicant’s expense, a deoxyribonucleic acid test be performed in a recognized and accredited government or private medical facility in Lagos State, Nigeria, to determine the paternity of Master Liam Aloba, an alleged son of Mr. Ilerioluwa Promise Oladimeji Aloba (deceased).
Odumosu claims that the family also requested a court order compelling Mrs. Omowunmi Aloba to consent to having her and Master Liam Aloba tested for DNA.
The family’s application, according to the legal team, also requested permission for the chief pathologist in charge of Mohbad’s remains, which are currently at the Military Hospital in Yaba Lagos, to extract samples from the deceased’s body in order to perform a DNA test for Liam.
The statement further disclosed that an attempt was made on Friday, March 8, at her Lekki residence, to serve Mohbad’s wife with court documents, but the attempt was unsuccessful.
“Those who were contacted to serve the process on her claimed she hadn’t been in the residence lately, according to the process server. To make sure that she receives all court orders in a proper manner, the legal team has stated that they will investigate other options,” the statement continued.
Mohbad passed away at the age of 27, and his death’s circumstances sparked debates on social media.
Mohbad, a former signee of Naira Marley’s Marlian Music record label, departed the label in February 2022. A 13-person special investigation team was established by the Lagos State Police Command on September 18, 2023, to look into the singer’s death.
Along with other people, his killing resulted in the arrest of Naira Marley and controversial Lagos socialite Balogun Eletu, better known as Sam Larry.
On September 21, 2023, Mohbad’s body was dug up for an autopsy to determine the cause of his passing.
In September 2023, Benjamin Hundeyin, the public relations officer for the state police, tweeted that a “autopsy has been concluded” and the authorities were “awaiting result.”
Primeboy handed himself in two days after the authorities declared him wanted on October 4, 2023, during the course of their investigation.
Omowunmi was reached, and after hearing our correspondent’s question, hung up without answering. Later, attempts to get in touch with her were unsuccessful because her phone number was unreachable. As of the time this report was written, she had not received a response to a text message sent to her phone.
