Afrobeats superstar Davido has taken to Instagram to congratulate his colleague, Tems, after she emerged as the winner of the Best African Music Performance category at the 67th Grammy Awards on Sunday.
Tems won the prestigious award for her hit song ‘Love Me Jeje,’ marking her second Grammy victory. She had previously earned a Grammy for her contribution to Future’s chart-topping single Wait For U.
Davido celebrated Tems’ victory, sharing “to the Queen, @temsbaby, we are proud of you!”
Tems during her emotional speech was vocal about thanking God for the outstanding achievement and also dedicated the award to her mother
“Wow, dear God. Thank you so much for putting me on this stage and bringing me this team. Tomorrow is my mum’s birthday, and this is her first Grammys. I just want to thank you, ma, because she has really done a lot for me and my brother.”
The star also expressed her gratitude to her team and friends
“I love you guys. Thank you so much. To God be the glory. Honestly, He has changed my life so much,”
Tems competed in the Best African Music Performance category, with some of Nigeria’s finest artists like Yemi Alade’s Tomorrow, Asake’s MMS, Chris Brown’s Sensational (featuring Davido & Lojay), and Burna Boy’s Higher also vying for the honor.
This category was introduced last year and was won by South African artist Tyla for her single “Water.”
Tems’ song was originally released by Seyi Sodium and actress Shafi Bello in 1997 and gained wide recognition after it’s release.
Congratulations Tems!
