The “Stronger2gether” theme of the Lagos State Sports Commission’s week-long sports fiesta began on Monday with a medical outreach for its employees at the Mobolaji Johnson Rowe Park Sports Centre in Yaba.

And the purpose of the exercise, according to Oluwatoyin Gafaar, Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, was to let staff members know how healthy and fit they were so they could take care of any issues before the games officially started.

“No matter what, we need to know that everyone is medically fit and it is mandatory we start from home. That is why we are starting the week with the medical outreach for the staff of the Lagos State Sports Commission,” he stated. “We are in sports both physically and mentally.” The purpose of the screening is to make sure the employees are capable of performing their duties and taking part in the games.

He said that the officers would go through a battery of medical examinations, which would include a dental examination, blood pressure, blood sugar checks at random, height rate, and weight balance. The goal of the medical exercise is to raise awareness of the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle, which has been the Sports Commission’s motto.

Beginning on Tuesday, the week-long celebration would feature a variety of sporting events, including staff members competing in handball, volleyball, five-aside, beach badminton, basketball, tug-of-war, table tennis, Ayo, chess, scrabble, monopoly, and other board games, he continued.

The goal of the medical outreach, according to Dr. Bukola Bojuwoye, Director of Sports Medicine, is to unite all staff members into one large family. “In order to make sure that the staff is physically prepared for the games, we also have to check their health status by performing various tests, such as blood pressure, blood sugar, diabetes, and so on, before they can participate in the sports fiesta,” he said.

Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Sports, Damilare Orimoloye, stated that mental health comes in second to physical fitness. “Therefore, the purpose of the medical exercise is to help the staff bond over the end-of-year fiesta,” he continued.

The Lagos State Sports Commission’s week-long programme, which aims to promote staff unity through various sports and games, will conclude with an end-of-year party and a carol service.
