Enoch Nwali emerges victorious in the Lekki Scrabble Classic Championship.

Current African Scrabble Champion, Enoch Nwali, has won the second edition of the Lekki scrabble classic championship, which took place at Ikoyi Club 1938 at the weekend.

Over 100 top players competed for the top prize in the two-day championship. It was used to commemorate Nigeria’s 63rd Independence anniversary.

Former World scrabble champion, Wellington Jighere, emerged second best player, while Adigun Olatunde came third.

A total of 18 games were played at the championship. Nwali said after winning the event, his goal is be among the top best Scrabble player in the World.

On his part, Jighere, said that Enoch’s victory was a clear indication that younger players are coming up to keep Nigeria scrabble at the top level globally.

Chairman of Lekki Scrabble Club, Samuel Anikoh, said that the club would not relent in organising more scrabble events to improve the standard of the sports in Nigeria.

“The Lekki scrabble club put together the scrabble classic to discover more stars in the country. More players need to be encouraged to play scrabble at the competitive level instead of playing the game just for relaxation.

“With more sponsors coming to support the Lekki scrabble event, we hope to get more participants and also increase the prize money to be more attractive,” he said.

Nwali pocketed N500,000 for emerging champion, just as monetary rewards and other gifts were given to outstanding players in different categories.
