The Federal Government has pledged to investigate reports of relief materials being hoarded instead of reaching internally displaced persons (IDPs) across the country.

Aliyu Ahmed, the Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons, made this commitment after discovering stockpiled relief supplies inside classrooms at the Durumi IDP camp in Abuja.

“During our visit, we uncovered food and non-food items stored in classrooms that should have been distributed to the IDPs. This is unacceptable, and we will take strict action against it,” Ahmed stated.

The commissioner, who was at the camp to inaugurate a computer centre donated by Brand Life Vision Foundation, conducted an inspection and found that essential relief supplies had not been distributed as intended.

He announced plans to form a committee to investigate similar cases in other IDP camps, warning that this issue may not be isolated.

“This situation is alarming. If it’s happening here, it could be occurring in other camps as well. We will ensure a thorough probe,” Ahmed added.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting displaced persons, he also pledged to work with the Universal Basic Education Commission to provide teachers for displaced children.

Meanwhile, the Founder of Brightlife Vision Foundation, Hajia Binta Sidi, revealed plans to train 1,000 IDPs nationwide. She emphasized the foundation’s focus on supporting underprivileged individuals, including IDPs and orphans.

Sidi also commended the commission for installing solar power at the ICT training centre and promised that the foundation would provide teachers for the training program.
