Five officers have been fired and two have been reprimanded by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority for engaging in corruption and misconduct while carrying out their official duties in the state.

This was revealed in a statement provided on Sunday by Adebayo Taofiq, the Public Relations Officer for LASTMA to reporters.

The statement claimed that during their meeting on Tuesday, August 19, 2023, the Lagos State Civil Service Commission had approved all of the recommendations the Personnel Management Board had made regarding the seven LASTMA officers who had been charged.

“While two LASTMA officials received a letter of’reprimand’ for their unpaid absence from their duty posts, the other five officials who were indicted for corruption received a letter of termination of appointment,” Taofiq stated.

According to Taofiq, Bakare Oki, the acting general manager of the organisation, the disciplinary action was carried out in compliance with Lagos State Civil Service Rules and Regulations.

He said that in order for the agency to get better, the public would need to share their experiences—both good and bad—and provide pertinent information about alleged misdemeanours.

He also assured the public that these complaints would be investigated promptly and unbiasedly, pleading with Lagos drivers to always follow the state traffic law in order to avoid breaking the law and incurring the penalties that are outlined in the legislation.

While cautioning the driving public to abide by the Lagos State Transportation Sector Reform Law 2018, Taofiq stated that the cases against the remaining 14 indicted LASTMA officials are awaiting further administrative review.

To achieve the goals set forth by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in the First Pillar of the THEMES Plus Development Agenda (Traffic Management and Transportation), as well as for the benefit of all, we must work towards a Greater Lagos.

We also want to let the driving public and well-meaning residents of Lagos know that there are multiple channels via which complaints can be sent for fast resolution: 08100565860, 08129928515, 08129928503, (08129928597 WhatsApp only), and Provost at 08129928490.

He gave the people assurance that these complaints would be swiftly and impartially looked into.

The cases against the remaining 14 indicted LASTMA officials are undergoing further administrative review, Mr Bakare Oki revealed while admonishing the driving public to follow the Lagos State Transportation Sector Reform Law 2018.
