The public and all interested parties have been informed by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) that runway 18L/36R has been reopened for flight operations at approximately 8 p.m.

This is stated in a statement that was issued on Tuesday in Lagos by Mrs. Obiageli Orah, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection.

According to Orah, the incident included a Dana Air aircraft registered 5N-BKI that overshot the runway during its landing sequence, which led to the runway’s earlier closure on Tuesday morning.

She claimed that the FAAN emergency response team moved quickly to remove the aircraft from the area and evacuate it.

Comprehensive clearing operations were then carried out to guarantee that there was no Foreign Object Debris (FOD) on the runway that would jeopardize flight safety.

She said that after a comprehensive evaluation of the runway surface by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) and the FAAN Operations Division, it was determined that operations could resume.

In this regard, a suitable Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has also been issued.

We acknowledge that there was a lot of muck in the overshoot area.

“A coordinated endeavor was undertaken to ensure the complete and effective cleaning of the region in order to expedite the restart of operations on Runway 18L/36R.

“FAAN would like to thank all parties involved, including the flying public, our airline partners, and other stakeholders, for their cooperation, understanding, and patience throughout the brief shutdown.

We really regret any inconvenience that this incident may have brought about.

Our first goal continues to be ensuring the security and safety of our visitors, employees, and airport operations.

“FAAN is dedicated to giving all users of our airports a safe, secure, and effective air transportation environment.”

The authorities were grateful to everyone for their understanding and unwavering support.
