Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has directed civil and public servants in the state to wear native attire with a touch of traditional Aso Oke fabric on Thursdays, alongside the usual native attire on Fridays.

The directive was communicated in a circular issued by the Office of the Head of Service to heads of ministries and agencies on January 27, 2025.

The new policy aims to preserve the Yoruba culture, empower local artisans, and boost the informal economy. The governor stated that the initiative will support local weavers, dyers, and tailors, helping to reduce unemployment and increase income for artisans.

Gov. Makinde also noted that the initiative would drive growth in the informal sector, promote tourism, and encourage inclusive economic development.
