LAGOS – The Lekki-Epe International Airport is set to become a transformative project for Lagos State following Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s signing of a landmark agreement with Summa Group, a global construction giant. Announced on Saturday via his social media channels, the governor emphasized that the project will significantly enhance connectivity, stimulate economic growth, and attract international investment to the region.

Lagos, poised to become West Africa’s top economic hub, is at the center of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s long-term vision. He believes the new airport is a key part of his plan, serving as a cornerstone in a series of infrastructure projects that will help transform the state.

Strain on the already congested Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) is expected to ease with the introduction of the Lekki-Epe International Airport. This new facility promises to revolutionize travel in and out of Lagos by significantly improving efficiency. Moreover, it is anticipated to unlock a host of new business opportunities for both investors and residents in the rapidly developing Lekki-Epe corridor.

This ambitious airport project joins a growing list of transformative infrastructural developments currently underway in the region. The Dangote Refinery, the Lekki Free Trade Zone, and the Deep-Sea Port are all contributing to a dynamic shift in the economic landscape of Lagos. The addition of the Lekki-Epe International Airport will act as a powerful catalyst, further accelerating industrial and commercial growth across the state.

Governor Sanwo-Olu reiterated his conviction that Lagos continues to lead the way in infrastructural innovation, positioning itself as the gateway to Africa’s economic future. The airport, when completed, will not only serve as a transportation hub but also as a symbol of Lagos’s ambition and progress on the continental stage. The specific financial details of the MoU with Summa Group, including the project’s cost and timeline, are expected to be released in the coming days.
