Following his conviction for misusing the Naira, the currency of Nigeria, popular crossdresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky and Mummy of Lagos, revealed to the court yesterday that he identifies as a man. This caused a small amount of drama in the courtroom.
Bobrisky, who is well-known for dressed as a woman, startled Nigerians with a new legal problem after he claimed to have had multiple procedures to change his gender.
As a grownup, Bobrisky went to the funeral in the Ogun State community of Ijebu Igbo after losing his father last year.a revelation that made many people’s tongues wag.
Idris Okuneye was sentenced to six months in prison by a federal magistrate in Lagos for the mutilation of naira notes, as reported by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
He will not be able to pay a fee while serving his six-month sentence at Ikoyi Correctional Centre.
Bobrisky has always caused controversy since he dresses himself as a woman for public events. In 2021, he claimed that he had undergone surgery and had changed his physical features to look more feminine.
According to the EFCC statement, Bobrisky instantly responded, “I am a man,” when the judge queried him about his sex prior to the punishment. The act of disfiguring Naira notes has escalated into a threat, further harming the nation’s reputation.
“Enough of people mutilating and tampering with our currencies,” the judge cautioned. It must end.
The charges against him stated as follows: “that you, Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court, on the 24th day of March 2024, at Imax Circle Mall, Jakande, Lekki, while dancing during a social event, tampered with the total sum of N400,000.00 (four hundred thousand naira) notes issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying same and you thereby committed an offense contrary to and punishable under section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007.”
In her decision, the court decided that the prison sentence would start on the day of his arrest, which was March 24, 2024.
