Advocates for gender-inclusive policymaking have been mobilized by stakeholders to tackle the obstacles that women face in the nation.

They made the request Monday in Abuja at the launch of the book “Politics, X and Power,” written by Gender Strategy Advancement International (GSAI) Executive Director Adaora Onyechere Sydney-Jack.

According to Sydney-Jack, the administration needs to show that it has the political will to include women in the formulation and execution of policies.

“If women are involved in policymaking and its implementation, we will directly see the outcomes of having more women in governance,” the speaker stated. “The government should not only show political will in theory or semantics of getting more women involved in political offices but also in policymaking.”

“In my opinion, it comes down to state actors’ political will, and it is crucial right now as 2027 draws near. Political parties need to start from scratch by elevating women into positions of leadership that go beyond those of women leaders because talk is cheap.

In his keynote speech, Abubakar Sulaiman, the Director-General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), recommended the book “Politics, X and Power,” noting that it would be helpful for researchers, policymakers, students, and academics among other people.

Speaking at the same event, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national women’s leader Amina Arong observed that, despite 25 years in politics, women’s participation has not altered.

“I got into politics at 25,” the woman said. After 25 years, I came to the conclusion that women’s participation has not altered at all. Women’s political space is becoming less and less.

Therefore, we are requesting a seat at the table from gender-sensitive guys so that we can start addressing our problems.

The Arise Monalisa Foundation’s founder, Monalisa Chinda, stressed the value of including women in decision-making processes.

It’s high time that more individuals started thinking about including women in positions of leadership. Why don’t we take up some of the Western nations that we model ourselves after in terms of how they include women? She enquired.
