International Day of the Girl Child

Theme: Invest in Girls’ Rights: Our Leadership, Our Well-being

Today, I join the rest of the world to celebrate this gender.

The ones who from childhood take responsibilities of believing they are expected to grow into taking care of the family.

The ones who are mostly vulnerable at every stage and mostly at the edge of the wicked people committing series of crimes against them while a few face the law, some or most get away with it.

The ones who are expected to have the ability to make a house a home and make peace at every warring state.

Today, I celebrate those who have lesser chances of going to School in most of the Northern parts of our country because it is believed they need to be in their husband’s house at a very early stage in life making babies. While some thrive to go, some are grounded because of norms and beliefs of their culture or doctrines.

According to a survey on Google,

“Nigeria, 57.8 million children are of school- going age (6–15 years old). A shocking 28.7% of all school-aged children whose data are included in the survey are not attending school. This is tightly linked to multidimensional poverty: 94% of all out-of-school children are poor” with the girl child holding the highest rate on this very recent survey.

I hope that our society begins to understand that when you train and educate a girl, you’re educating a generation.

This also falls on the part of the government to make basic education and books free or almost very affordable travel so we can allow the girls grow into their full capacity to have a more beautiful society in the years to come.

I hope pedophiles and wicked ones do not get away with crimes committed against our girls in the name of whatever it is. I hope our laws can protect our girls more.
