The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that a record-breaking 2,030,627 candidates have registered for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

This figure, the highest in JAMB’s history, was revealed in the board’s weekly bulletin released in Abuja on Monday. The registration for the examination officially closed on March 8.

For comparison, over 1.9 million candidates registered for the UTME in 2024. The latest numbers exclude those who registered to take the exam at foreign centers.

Additionally, JAMB disclosed that 200,115 candidates have opted to sit for the optional mock UTME, scheduled for April 5, 2025.

The board also highlighted the introduction of new measures aimed at curbing malpractice and preserving the integrity of the examination process.

“These measures have already led to multiple arrests of candidates attempting to use forged A-level results for admission, highlighting the effectiveness of the new system designed to detect such fraud,” JAMB stated.

The board urged all candidates to strictly follow the examination guidelines and avoid any form of malpractice.
