Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the immediate suspension of Law admissions in eight Nigerian universities for the 2025/2026 academic session.

JAMB spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, confirmed that no admissions for the Law programme will be approved at these universities for the specified session.

The affected universities include Kwara State University, Malete, Ilorin; Bingham University, Karu, Nasarawa State; Redeemers University, Ede, Osun State; Western Delta University, Oghara, Delta State; Taraba State University, Jalingo; Arthur Jarvis University, Akpabuyo, Cross River State; Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State; and Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.

This decision follows the Council of Legal Education’s (CLE) suspension of the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme at these institutions for failing to adhere to regulatory procedures.

However, in response to this development, Kwara State University’s acting director of University Relations, Dr. Saeedat Aliyu responded that the one-year suspension of its law programme does not affect students currently enrolled in its Faculty of Law.

Dr. Aliy, explained in a statement on Thursday that KWASU holds full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Council of Legal Education (CLE) to run two undergraduate law programmes: Common Law and Common and Islamic Law.

“The management wishes to state that the one-year ban does not in any way affect students currently running their programmes in the University’s Faculty of Law,” Dr. Aliyu said.

She confirmed that KWASU would comply with the sanctions imposed by CLE by not offering admission into the two law programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session.

“KWASU holds all regulatory institutions in very high regard and will comply with the sanctions imposed by CLE,” she added.
