LAGOS COLLEGE OF NURSING CELEBRATES STUDENTS UNION WEEK

 

The Lagos State College of Nursing Student Association (LASCONSA) recently held its Y2023 Students’ Union Week to promote social, intellectual, academic and cultural engagement among students.

 

The week-long event themed: “Our Nueses, Our Future”, was held on the College Premises with students from various departments networking and participating in different activities.

 

Declaring the week open, the Provost of Lagos State College of Nursing, Mrs. Oyefunso Orenuga, represented by the Head of the Midwifery Department, Mrs. Urena Orji, said part of the role of the institution is to improve the social development of its students.

 

She said the Students’ Week was introduced by the management of the College to provide a platform for students to explore, discover and develop communal bonds in social gatherings”.

 

According to her, the event was also designed to beam a searchlight on the adverse effects of brain drain in the health sector. The increased movement of health personnel in search of a better standard of living and quality of life is driven by factors such as lack of work tools, conducive environment, poor remuneration, heavy workload and desire for professional development.

 

While informing the students of several government interventions through various support in the healthcare sector, the Provost added that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has endeared himself to the medical profession particularly the nursing institution by providing a good working environment, improved remuneration, professional autonomy and career progression.
