In a bid to enhance building safety and prevent structural failures, the Lagos State Government has launched the Certified Accreditors Programme (CAP), a new initiative aimed at addressing inadequacies in construction supervision.
The programme, unveiled during a stakeholders’ meeting with representatives from both the public and private sectors, is a direct response to recommendations made by a panel established in 2021 to curb building collapses and safeguard lives.
Speaking at the launch, the state government emphasized the importance of collaboration between regulatory agencies and private sector professionals to ensure strict adherence to building codes.
“I am happy to share that we have inducted 111 certified accreditors, including consultants and monitoring officers, who will represent us in this initiative,” the government stated.
“These accreditors will work alongside regulatory agencies to screen structural drawings, conduct inspections, and enforce compliance throughout the construction process.”
The initiative marks a significant step towards fostering a safer Lagos, with a primary focus on reducing the risk of collapses and ensuring the security of lives and property.
The government also called on property developers, structural engineers, homeowners, and architects to actively participate in upholding the highest standards of integrity and compliance in the industry.
“Together, we can mitigate the risks of building collapses and unplanned developments, helping us create a safer and more prosperous Lagos,” the statement concluded.
