In order to decrease the number of out-of-school children in the state, the Lagos State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education (MBSE), Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun, has declared that his ministry is prepared to build more technical colleges and vocational centres.

The 67th National Council of Education (NCE) meeting, organised in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Education and set for December 12–15 at the Lagos Airport Hotel in Ikeja, will be hosted by the colleges, according to Alli-Balogun, who made this announcement while briefing journalists on the plans.

He claims that in keeping with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES agenda, I have the mindset to expand the state’s technical and vocational education system.

“We aim to remove as many out-of-school youth from the streets as possible, enabling them to attend school, acquire a skill, and become valuable members of society, employers of labour, and themselves.”

Concerned about the problem of drug abuse among young people, he stated that his ministry is working with anti-drug clubs, law enforcement, and other security agencies to eradicate the threat.

The commissioner emphasised the importance of the NEC meeting, which has as its theme “Addressing the Problems of Policy Implementations: Panacea for the Achievements of Education 2030 Agenda,” and mentioned that Prof. Tahir Mamman, the minister of education, will preside over it.

Delegates from various ministries, agencies, and government parastatals, including the FCT Education Secretariat, state and federal ministries of education, higher education, science, and technology, are anticipated.
