LAGOS: NIGERIA’S FIRST WOMAN ANNOUNCES ELDERLY SUPPORT SCHEME

The Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS), designed to assist vulnerable senior citizens 65 years of age and above in all 36 states of the federation, was introduced by Senator Oluremi Tinubu CON, the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, during this joyous occasion.

In her speech at the inaugural Renewed Hope Initiative Elders Support Scheme (RHIESS) event, which took place at Lagos House in Ikeja, Senator Oluremi stated that the programme, which had as its theme “Better Days Ahead,” is an economic empowerment initiative for the welfare of senior citizens throughout the nation.

On behalf of Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, gave the beneficiaries the cash and gift items. She said that the gesture represents a major advancement in the government’s overall efforts to create a society that is more compassionate and inclusive.

She emphasised that a total of N100,000 was given to over 250 beneficiaries who were chosen from among the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).

She stated that each State of the Federation received the sum of Twenty-Five Million Naira (N25,000,000), which includes beneficiaries from Lagos State. “The total amount disbursed is Nine Hundred and Fifty Million Naira (N950,000,000), as approved by the Governing Board of the Renewed Hope Initiative,” she said.

She continued, “We are dedicated to making sure that every State benefits from this gesture without discrimination. Its purpose is to lessen the burdens of our esteemed elders during this joyous time and to buffer the impact of the economic situation.”

She emphasised that veterans from the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) will also benefit from this initiative, pointing out that it is being held simultaneously in all 36 states of the federation as well as the Federal Capital Territory.

As a result, Senator Oluremi urged the elderly to live life to the fullest, put their health first, and deepen their relationships with God and family. She emphasised that these are the essential components of a rich and satisfying life in their golden years.

Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the wife of the governor of Lagos State, supported the First Lady of Nigeria’s initiative by presenting gifts and food items to the 250 beneficiaries of the Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS).

In the first iteration of the Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS), beneficiaries received cash awards, free medical exams, and various other miscellaneous items.
