Lagos State Attorney-General And Commissioner For Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo (San) Visits Domestic, Sexual Violence Agency

The Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN) has paid an official visit to the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA).

Speaking during the visit, Onigbanjo commended the leadership and staff of the Agency for their unwavering passion and commitment to the discharge of duties and expressed satisfaction with the achievements of the Agency within the short time it became operational.

The Commissioner, however, called on the staff to keep raising the bar as the Agency plays a strategic role in actualising a gender-based violence-free society in line with the T.H.E.M.E.S. Agenda of the present administration for a safe State.

In her response, the Executive Secretary of DSVA, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi commended the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice,  the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Ms. Titilayo Shitta-Bey, and other officials of its parent Ministry for the visit.

She said the Agency had provided services for 797 survivors, secured 12 restraining orders against abusive spouses, and published details of six sex convicts in the first quarter of this year alone.

Vivour-Adeniyi further revealed that the Agency had continued to collaborate with the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Youth and Social Welfare, Office of Education Quality Assurance, and other relevant Agencies to engage over 1000 School Children on Child Rights, just as it has engaged over 2000 parents through the Teachers Parents Forum (PTF) from the six Education Districts.

While revealing that 143 beneficiaries graduated from the Lagos DSVA Trust Fund Skills Acquisition training, startup grants, accommodation and school fees, she lauded the state government for the provision of office space for the Agency, describing it as a holistic response to ensure that cases are done whilst upholding the tenets of confidentiality.

“We will continue to strengthen our partnership with critical stakeholders, embark on training, build the capacity of service and responder agencies and step up community and awareness creation as we remain committed to reducing gender-based violence to the barest minimum”, Vivour-Adeniyi pledged.
