Lagos State Government Unveils Comprehensive Measures to Aid Residents Amidst Challenging Times

In a media chat earlier yesterday tagged #SanwoSpeaks, the Lagos State Governor, His Excellency, announced a robust package of over 10 policy measures aimed at providing immediate relief to residents grappling with current challenges. Backed by data and designed to uplift every Lagosian, these initiatives cover various aspects of public service, transportation, healthcare, food security, infrastructure, and inter-state collaboration.

 

One of the key highlights includes the introduction of a flexible work policy for Levels 1-13 civil servants, allowing for a 3-day work week to alleviate stress and enhance work-life balance.

In a bid to ease the financial burden on commuters, the state government has implemented a 25% reduction in transport fares for the State Public Transport system, including BRT, Train, and Ferry services. This initiative is expected to inject over ₦500 million monthly back into the pockets of Lagosians. Additionally, discussions with various unions are underway to further reduce transport fares across the board.

 

To address the soaring food prices, the government is set to launch Sunday Markets across 42 identified markets in the state, offering essential food items at affordable rates not exceeding N25,000. The initiative aims to serve over 500,000 Lagosians and complement ongoing efforts to construct additional food hubs across various LGAs.

On the healthcare front, over 50,000 women annually will benefit from free childbirth services at State General Hospitals and secondary health facilities. The government is also distributing free hypertensive medications to individuals in need, demonstrating its commitment to improving healthcare accessibility.

 

In a bid to enhance security, over 200 unsafe structures have been demolished, prioritizing the safety of over 1 million residents. The governor reiterated his support for state policing and announced plans to deploy additional officers under the Lagos Neighbourhood Agency to ensure law and order.

 

In housing, the Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority has resolved over 1,000 tenant-landlord disputes, reaffirming the government’s commitment to fairness in housing.

 

Infrastructure-wise, the government is set to commence work on 180 inner roads across various local government areas, with empowered council chairmen fixing 120 roads concurrently. Additionally, groundbreaking for the long-awaited 4th Mainland Bridge is scheduled for April, promising improved connectivity and economic growth.

 

Inter-state collaboration is also a priority, with plans underway to enhance cooperation with neighboring states like Ogun and Oyo. Initiatives include collaborative projects and disaster response efforts.

 

The governor concluded by urging unity and creativity in navigating these challenging times, promising to provide regular updates as the government continues to devise solutions to meet the evolving needs of Lagosians.
