In a groundbreaking move, Lagos State has launched 15 high-capacity, locally fabricated boats, marking a significant step towards revolutionizing transportation in the state. This initiative showcases the state’s commitment to sustainable, efficient, and reliable transport options for all Lagosians.

The new ferries, fabricated in partnership with Caverton Marine, are designed to carry 40 passengers each, doubling the capacity of existing vessels. This project marks the beginning of a new era in water transportation, offering a faster, cleaner, and more comfortable commute.

“The deployment of these ferries underscores our dedication to reducing traffic congestion and improving connectivity between communities,” said the governor. “By saving hours lost in traffic, we are boosting economic prosperity and enhancing the quality of life for our residents.”

This initiative aligns perfectly with the state’s THEMES+ agenda, promoting pollution-free mobility and integrating an intermodal transportation system. The new ferries operate on the Cowry Card payment system, ensuring seamless and efficient service for all users.

An additional 25 high-capacity ferries will be fabricated in the second phase, further expanding waterway routes and reducing turnaround times. These ferries are equipped with cutting-edge technology to ensure safety, comfort, and convenience for all passengers.

“Our commitment to enhancing the Lagos transportation system is unwavering,” said transport chairman. “With new patrol boats, a Search and Rescue Unit, and a floating clinic, we are ensuring that our waterways are safe and efficient. Together, we are building a Lagos that thrives on innovation and sustainability.”

This launch marks a significant milestone in Lagos State’s transportation revolution, and we look forward to continuing to innovate and improve the lives of our residents.
