In a landmark move, the Lagos State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) and China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) to develop the Green Line Metro, a 68km rail line connecting Lekki Free Zone to Marina.

This ambitious project, designed to transform the city’s transportation landscape, will link key areas like Victoria Island, Lekki, Ajah, and more, with the capacity to carry over 500,000 passengers daily, increasing to over a million as demand grows.

The Green Line complements existing rail lines, including the Red Line, which has begun partial operations, forming the backbone of Lagos’ Strategic Transport Masterplan. This plan aims to create a fast, efficient, and connected city.

The success of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue Line, which has served 2 million passengers without significant disruptions, demonstrates the city’s readiness for expanded rail services. The Blue Line has reduced travel time between Marina and Mile 2 from 30 to 18 minutes, showcasing the impact of rail lines on economic growth, community connection, and quality of life.

With the Green Line, Lagos is poised to lead the way in transportation innovation, building a city that works for all.
